The short version
You choose a car, pay half to start the import, and the car is shipped to Mombasa. Kabex clears it through URA and transports it to Kampala. The balance falls due before the vessel docks, and you collect the car registered and ready to drive.
From order to collection, most imports take six to ten weeks. Most of that is the sea voyage.
Step by step
Each step has something for you to do and something for us to do. Nothing moves until you have confirmed it.
- Tell us what you want. Make, model, year, budget and any must-haves.
- We source and send you options, with photos, auction sheets where available, and a full quotation.
- You pay 50% of the CIF price to start the import. The car is then bought in your name.
- The car is shipped to Mombasa. We send you the shipping documents.
- The balance falls due before the vessel docks.
- We clear the car through URA, transport it to Kampala, and hand it over.
What you pay, and when
Half of the CIF price starts the import. The remaining half is due two weeks before the vessel docks in Mombasa, so that clearing is never held up.
URA taxes are separate from the car price, and so is transport from Mombasa. The Drive-Home Cost calculator adds them all up.
